The shearline is expected to bring heavy rains to parts of Northern Luzon on Wednesday, while the rest of the country will generally experience fair weather with localized thunderstorms, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported.
PAGASA weather specialist Rhea Torres said the northeast monsoon, or amihan, continues to affect extreme Northern Luzon, with a shear line forming along the region. This interaction between cold and warm air masses is causing cloudy skies and scattered rain showers in affected areas.
Residents in Northern Luzon, particularly in Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, and Ilocos provinces, are advised to prepare for persistent rains, which may result in flooding and landslides.
Cagayan and Isabela are expected to experience heavy to intense rainfall, with precipitation possibly reaching up to 200 millimeters within 24 hours. Moderate to heavy rains, ranging from 50 to 100 millimeters, are likely in Apayao and Kalinga. The downpour could extend over the next three days as the shear line remains active.
“We urge our kababayans in these areas to take precautions as the heavy rains might lead to floods and landslides,” Torres warned.
While Northern Luzon braces for wet conditions, the rest of Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will enjoy generally fair weather. Occasional thunderstorms may occur in the afternoon or evening, particularly in Palawan, Visayas, and Mindanao, due to localized weather systems.
No gale warning is currently raised, and sea travel is generally safe.
