The Department of Health MIMAROPA Center for Health Development is strengthening healthcare services in geographically isolated and underserved communities in Palawan by training and deploying frontline health workers under the PuroKalusugan program.
A weeklong training and orientation held in Puerto Princesa from May 4 to 8 gathered Human Resource for Health (HRH) personnel assigned to remote communities across the province.
The activity focused on improving the capacity of health workers to deliver primary healthcare services, submit health reports, and respond to community health concerns in far-flung areas where access to medical services remains limited.
The DOH said the initiative aims to ensure that healthcare workers deployed in underserved communities are equipped with the technical skills and policy guidance needed for frontline service delivery.
“Tinitiyak ng DOH MIMAROPA CHD ang mas episyente at responsive na paghahatid ng serbisyong pangkalusugan sa mga komunidad sa pamamagitan ng mas handang health workforce at pinalakas na sistema ng implementasyon sa lokal na antas,” the agency said.
Among the topics discussed during the training were localized policies under the National Health Workforce Support System (NHWSS), deployment guidelines, and the use of interim digital reporting systems for PuroKalusugan implementation under Department Memorandum 2026-0071.
Participants also underwent hands-on data encoding exercises aimed at improving the collection and submission of health data used for planning interventions and monitoring community health conditions.
The activity concluded with a capacity-building session focused on reinforcing the role of healthcare workers in sustaining health services in local communities.
The training gathered deployed HRH personnel in Palawan, representatives from the Provincial DOH Office, officials from the Universal Health Care–Health Systems and Policy Support Division, and resource speakers from the Bureau of Local Health Systems Development.
