The state weather bureau said a low pressure area (LPA) spotted 835 kilometers east-northeast of extreme Northern Luzon, is driving the southwest monsoon, affecting Southern Luzon, including Metro Manila, and parts of Visayas.
Residents in Metro Manila, Western Visayas, Zambales, Bataan, Cavite, Batangas, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan are advised to brace for cloudy skies accompanied by scattered rains and thunderstorms that may lead to moderate to heavy rainfall.
The southwest monsoon, locally known as “habagat,” poses risks of flash floods and landslides in these areas.
Meanwhile, the rest of Visayas along with Bicol Region, other parts of Mimaropa, and Calabarzon are expected to experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms also due to the southwest monsoon.
For the rest of the country, localized thunderstorms are likely to cause partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional isolated rain showers, carrying a similar threat of flash floods or landslides during intense conditions.
Wind conditions across Northern Luzon are forecasted to be light to moderate coming from the southwest to west direction, with coastal waters expected to be slight to moderate, ranging from 0.6 to 2.1 meters. Similar conditions are expected across the rest of the country with winds from the south to southwest.
PAGASA urges the public to stay informed through official updates and to heed local disaster risk reduction and management advisories to ensure safety.
