Seven returnee inmates at the Iwahig Corrections Facility (ICF) mounted a daring escape Sunday. Five of them were promptly recaptured by pursuing prison guards while two others managed to slip through the guards and are reportedly still at large.

According to officials, all seven persons were among the 185 former convicts who had already been released under the controversial good conduct time allowance (GCTA), or through pardon, but were forced to return to prison in the face of warnings made by President Rodrigo Duterte.

The seven returnees executed their planned escape on Sunday evening following the routine headcount conducted by security guards.

The two escapees who have not yet been recovered are currently the subject of a manhunt.
