A cock breeding farm in Barangay Sta. Monica was hit by a fire Monday afternoon.

Authorities said the fire destroyed the shelter of the farm’s caretaker including some 50 chicks being raised.

The farm is owned by Boy Caballes.

Caretaker Reynald Caballes, a relative of the owner, suspected the fire may have originated from the facility’s kitchen where they were cooking dog food.

FO3 Rud Mark Anticano, spokesperson of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in the city, however said that from their initial investigation, the cause of the fire was an incubator that had lights consistently on to warm the newly-hatched chicken. He said that bulbs could have overheated and caused the fire.

“‘Yong poultry ay medyo may kalaparan, open lang siya at maraming kulungan ng manok at ‘yong kwarto ay maliit lang, siguro nasa two by two lang ito,” he said.
