A fire that hit the Land Bank of the Philippines branch in Coron on Tuesday, August 18, caused an estimated ₱273,000 in property damage, according to the local office of the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP).
The fire started at around 12:15 p.m. in the branch’s storage area, destroying office supplies and old bank files kept inside.
FO2 Elmer Dejumo of the BFP Coron Fire Station said the damage estimate could still change after authorities and bank officials complete their assessment.
“Pwede tumaas o bumaba depende po sa magiging resulta ng assessment,” Dejumo told Palawan News.
Firefighters placed the blaze under control at 12:49 p.m. and declared it completely extinguished at 1:30 p.m.
There were no reported injuries, and nearby establishments were unharmed by the fire.
The branch remains temporarily closed as the assessment and investigation continue. Its automated teller machine is also unavailable because firefighting operations exposed it to water.
“Closed po muna habang ongoing yung investigation pati ATM po hindi gumagana dahil nabasa… ongoing po yung assessment kahit po sila bangko nagsasagawa din ng assessment,” Dejumo said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. LandBank customers in Coron are advised to wait for further announcements on the resumption of branch and ATM services.
