Two homegrown chocolate makers from Davao, Malagos Chocolate and Auro Chocolate, have earned global recognition after being named among the 100 Best Chocolates in the World by TasteAtlas for 2025.
Malagos 85% Dark Chocolate ranked 19th on the list for its “distinctly rich and robust” flavor made with minimalist ingredients—cocoa mass, cocoa butter, and sugar. TasteAtlas highlighted the brand’s “direct-from-farm approach” that ensures purity and traceability, reflecting Malagos’ long-standing commitment to sustainable cacao farming.
Meanwhile, Auro’s 42% Milk Hojicha placed 71st for its “unique chocolate experience” that blends roasted Japanese green tea (Hojicha) with creamy milk chocolate. The guide praised Auro as a “renowned bean-to-bar company” that sustainably sources fine cacao directly from Davao farming communities.
Leading this year’s global list is Amano Chocolate’s Raspberry Rose from the United States, followed by Italy’s Domori Chuao 70%, Venezuela’s Franceschi Canoabo 70%, Vietnam’s Belvie Ben Tre 70%, and the Dominican Republic’s Definite Chocolate Cassava 70% Öko-Caribe.

TasteAtlas, which describes itself as an “encyclopedia of flavors,” celebrates traditional dishes and locally produced ingredients from around the world. The guide has also previously featured Filipino favorites such as arroz caldo, lugaw, and champorado among the world’s best porridges.
Founded in 2013, Malagos Chocolate is known for its award-winning single-origin dark bars and tablea made through ethical, farm-to-bar production. Auro Chocolate, established in 2015 by Mark Ocampo and Kelly Go, is recognized internationally for championing Filipino cacao through its innovative, sustainably sourced chocolate lines.
