Fair weather in Palawan, but thunderstorms still possible — PAGASA

The state weather bureau said Palawan will continue to have generally fair weather this Sunday, October 5, but warned that localized thunderstorms remain possible, especially in the afternoon or evening.

PAGASA forecaster Obet Badrina said most areas in Palawan, including Puerto Princesa City, will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies throughout the day.

However, the Kalayaan Islands are likely to have more rain due to the effect of the southwest monsoon.

“Asahan ang bahagyang maulap hanggang sa maulap na kalangitan na may mga localized thunderstorms sa nalalabing bahagi ng Palawan,” Badrina said.

“Mas malaking tsansa ng maulap na kalangitan na may mga pag-ulan sa may bahagi ng Kalayaan Islands dahil sa hanging habagat,” he added.

Badrina advised residents in flood-prone barangays to stay alert for possible flash floods or lightning during sudden heavy rain.

Fisherfolk were also told to monitor weather updates before sailing, as thunderstorms can quickly cause rough seas even without a gale warning.

PAGASA said no gale warning is currently in effect anywhere in the country, and coastal waters are expected to be slight to moderate.

In Puerto Princesa, the temperature will range from 25°C to 32°C, while the Kalayaan Islands will have the same range.

Elsewhere, large parts of Luzon, the Visayas, and Mindanao will experience generally fair weather, with possible rain showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon or evening.

“Halos walang kaulapan sa malaking bahagi ng ating kapuluan, pero posible pa rin yung mga localized thunderstorms lalo na sa hapon hanggang sa gabi,” Badrina said.

Two tropical cyclones remain outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Typhoon Paolo (international name Matmo) is moving toward southern China, while Tropical Storm Halong is located near the northeastern boundary of the PAR and is not expected to affect the country.

PAGASA said the next tropical cyclone to enter the PAR will be named Quidan.
