Localized thunderstorms are expected to continue over parts of Mindanao and Eastern Visayas today, June 15, as the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) continues to affect southern portions of the country, the state weather bureau said.
According to the latest weather advisory from the PAGASA Weather Forecasting Center, the ITCZ, where winds from different hemispheres meet, is bringing cloudy skies and scattered rain showers with lightning and thunder over Mindanao and the eastern section of the Visayas.
In contrast, fair weather is expected over most parts of Luzon and western sections of the Visayas, with the easterlies still prevailing. The southwest monsoon or habagat remains weak, resulting in less cloud formation over the western side of the country.
Despite generally fair conditions, localized thunderstorms may still develop in the afternoon or evening in several areas, including Metro Manila.
PAGASA weather specialist Obet Badrina also noted that no low-pressure area is being monitored at this time, but there remains a chance for a tropical cyclone to develop in the Philippine Area of Responsibility in the coming days. The ITCZ is also expected to shift further south this week, possibly reducing rainfall over Eastern Visayas and parts of Mindanao.
Meanwhile, isolated rain showers and thunderstorms may continue in Palawan, as well as in Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Central Visayas.
