The Puerto Princesa City Council formally honored Eva Ponce De Leon after she was elected Global President of the International Federation of Social Workers (IFSW).
The council presented the recognition through a resolution written by Councilor Matthew K. Mendoza.
The measure recognized her achievement and contribution to social work in the city, the Philippines, and the international community.
The IFSW is a global organization of professional social work groups. It works to promote social justice, human rights, and community development in different parts of the world.
As global president, Ponce De Leon is expected to focus on empowering women, promoting equal opportunities, creating more sources of livelihood, and protecting human rights.
Before taking the IFSW’s highest leadership post, she served as president and executive director of the Philippine Association of Social Workers, Inc. During her term, she supported training programs, international cooperation, and efforts to improve social work practice in the country.
Her election also reflects the trust placed in her by the international social work community. She will now help lead discussions and programs that affect social workers and the communities they serve in different countries.
She thanked the City Council for the recognition, which she said would give her more inspiration to continue working for the welfare of social workers and the people they assist.
Ponce De Leon is the widow of former Palawan congressman and vice governor David Ponce De Leon, who died in January 2026.
