An elderly woman was declared dead on arrival at the hospital after she was hit by a car along the North National Highway in Purok Pagkakaisa, Brgy. San Miguel, Roxas, Palawan at around 10:47 a.m. today, May 14.
The victim was only identified by the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PalPPO) as 67-year-old Lola Mercy, a resident of the same barangay. The driver of the car was identified only by the alias “Jet,” 41 years old, and a resident of Brgy. Barotuan in El Nido.
According to the initial police investigation, the driver and five other passengers were on their way to Puerto Princesa City when the accident happened. The elderly woman reportedly crossed the road suddenly, causing the car to hit her.
The impact threw the victim about 20 meters away. She suffered serious injuries in different parts of her body and was rushed to the Roxas Medicare Hospital, where doctors declared her dead on arrival.
As of this writing, the driver is in the custody of the Roxas Municipal Police Station while the investigation is still ongoing.
