EL NIDO, Palawan — Some 50 farmers and members of fisherfolk associations still gathered Wednesday at the Department of Agriculture’s (DA) Lio Farm in Barangay Villa Libertad here for the “Adlao y manig oma ig manig pangisda” despite the suspension of their activity.
The event, which was supposed to be attended by over a thousand residents, was part of the 104th founding anniversary of the town.
Municipal agriculturist Virginia Balderas led the gathering of the short program, explaining that the cancellation was part of the preventive actions the local government is pursuing against COVID-19.
Balderas said they will still give the prizes of P50,000 for first place, P40,000 for second place, and P30,000 for third place for the “Best Booth Contest”.
El Nido administrator Raffy Cabate also issued the same apology to the farmers and fishermen, explaining not only their activity was affected but also the other events in relation to their foundation day.
He told the farmers to help pray for their municipality, the province, and the country to be able to overcome the COVID-19 crisis.
Maraming salamt,” Cabate said to them.
Vice mayor Luningning Batoy also assured the farmers and fishermen that the municipal government will help them in their livelihood projects.
