Dumaran is set to open its first Category 1 Sanitary Landfill, a major step toward cleaner, safer, and more sustainable waste management in the municipality.
Funded through the 2026–20% Development Fund, the project aims to address growing waste challenges while ensuring compliance with Republic Act 9003, the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000.
According to the Municipal Planning and Development Office (MPDO), the landfill is part of a long-term strategy to protect public health, safeguard the environment, and promote responsible local development.
“This project will provide Dumaran with a sustainable facility that benefits both current residents and future generations,” the report said.

A recent site inspection at Sitio Calandagan, Barangay Capayas, evaluated the landform, soil condition, vegetation, and distance from homes and water bodies.
Officials confirmed that the area meets Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) standards for Category 1 Sanitary Landfills, designed for small-scale waste collection systems.
The completion of the Master Development Plan and Perspective Views marks a significant milestone, while the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) issued by DENR on September 26, 2024, ensures the project meets national environmental standards.
Municipal Mayor Richard R. Herrera, together with the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) and MPDO, are leading the initiative, guiding planning and implementation to ensure the landfill delivers long-term benefits.
According to Dumaran MPDO, the facility is expected to enhance waste management, improve community health, and strengthen environmental stewardship across the municipality.
