VICTORIA, Oriental Mindoro — The Oriental Mindoro Office of the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) and Saklaw Foundation held a four-day training on Cacao production in Calapan City.

Cacao is a source for chocolates that is in demand among food manufacturers, restaurants and beverage companies, the chairman of the Philippine Cacao Council said in a recent training in this municipality.

Aside from market potentials, cacao expert Velente Turtur said the country has the ideal conditions for growing the crop.

Turtur’s lecture is part of the training on cacao production which includes sessions on inter-cropping, post-harvesting activities and food processing for cocoa.

At least 35 people benefited from the training held in Barangay Loyal.

DTI and its Negosyo Centers are assisting start-up companies and small and medium enterprises in the agricultural sector to grow their businesses.
