The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI)-Palawan led the selection process for the province’s nominee for the regional level of the Pamilihang Bayan ng Bidang Mamimili Award 2024.
DTI-Palawan Provincial Director Hazel DP Salvador said only three municipalities in Palawan participated in the selection for the PBBM Award 2024 because other public markets are still under renovation.
These include the public markets of Narra, Roxas, and Bataraza.
Meanwhile, DTI-Palawan Information Officer Persival Narbonita stated that they completed the evaluation of the three public markets last week, with the provincial evaluation committee composed of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Provincial Economic Enterprise and Development Office (PEEDO), and the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist (OPA).
“Noong pag-start ng initial coordination with LGUs noong July ay mayroong anim na LGUs na nag-verbal confirmed na sasali sa patimpalak na ito. However, by end of August 2024 ay mayroon na lang tatlong LGUs na nag-confirm out of all Pamilihang Bayan ng mainland Palawan, including Puerto Princesa City. Ito ‘yong Bataraza, Narra at Roxas,” said Narbonita.
Narbonita added that the public markets of Roxas and Bataraza also participated in the Search for Bidang Manininda for the Fish Section, Dry Goods/Sundry Section, and Fruits and Vegetable Section.
The DTI is set to recognize the chosen provincial nominee for the said competition on October 1, 2024.
The grand winner for the provincial level of the Most Consumer-Friendly Public Market will receive ₱5,000 worth of office supplies and a plaque, and this market will represent the province at the regional level.
The grand winners of the Bidang Manininda for the three categories — Fish Section, Dry Goods/Sundry Section, and Fruits and Vegetable Section — will receive a ₱3,000 cash prize and a plaque.
The PBBM Award aims to further improve the quality of services in public markets across the country, including that of vendors. (OCJ/PIA-MIMAROPA, Palawan)
