The Department of Social Welfare and Development MIMAROPA recognized a Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) beneficiary in Cuyo town for his success in vegetable farming, which now supports his family’s daily needs.
In a report released February 5, DSWD MIMAROPA identified Ruben Palay of Barangay Suba as an example of perseverance through his “Gulayan sa Pamayanan.”
The agency said Palay’s garden not only provides food for his family but also serves as a source of income, earning him more than ₱2,000 per harvest. He sets aside the amount as savings for his family’s future.
“Bawat barya na aming nakukuha tuwing ani ay naihuhulog namin sa aming alkansya. Malaking tulong ito sa aming pang-araw-araw na pangangailangan,” Palay said in the agency’s report.

Palay also serves as president of his barangay’s association of vegetable growers. The DSWD commended the Municipal Agriculture Office for its continued support and provision of farming inputs, including vegetable seeds, to local farmers.
DSWD MIMAROPA said Palay’s story shows that the 4Ps program, when paired with hard work and proper guidance, can help families build sustainable livelihoods.
