The Department of Health (DOH) in MIMAROPA recently conducted a refresher training for Field Assistant Workers (FAWs) in Palawan to strengthen malaria case detection and treatment in the province.
The activity was organized by the Vector-Borne Disease Unit of the DOH MIMAROPA Center for Health Development, led by Oscar L. Macam Jr. It included a refresher training on intensified malaria case diagnosis and treatment, along with a workshop on malaria stratification.
According to DOH MIMAROPA, the training aimed to improve the capacity of FAWs in properly diagnosing and managing malaria cases, including the correct use of Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) and clinical assessment.
“Layunin ng aktibidad na palakasin ang kapasidad ng mga Field Assistant Workers sa tamang pagsusuri at pamamahala ng kaso ng malaria, kabilang ang wastong paggamit ng Rapid Diagnostic Test (RDT) at clinical assessment,” the agency said.
The workshop also covered the province’s annual malaria stratification, which helps determine the current level of malaria transmission and guides the development of strategies for areas with higher case numbers.
“Binigyang-diin naman ang kahalagahan ng maagang pagtukoy ng kaso at agarang gamutan upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng sakit sa komunidad,” DOH added.
The activity was attended by representatives from DOH MIMAROPA, the Provincial DOH Office, PHO-KLM (Kilusang Ligtas Malaria), Field Assistant Workers, an external consultant, and PSFI.
Health officials said the training is expected to strengthen coordination between regional and local health workers and help ensure that malaria interventions in Palawan are more focused and effective.
