CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro, Nov. 26 (PIA) – – The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Mimaropa launched the Constitutional Reform (CORE) Provincial Roadshow tagged as Balangayan 2019 in Calapan City.

The campaign pushes for constitutional amendments, in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s political agenda. DILG Mimaropa rolls out four pillars of CORE which bears “Pagyamanin ang Probinsiya, Paluwagin ang Metro Manila”; “Gobyerno para sa Tao, Hindi Para sa Trapo”; “Bukas na Ekonomiya nang Lahat may Pagasa”; and “Bagong Konstitusyon para sa Bagong Henerasyon.”

Al Ghafar Iribani, DILG Project Development Officer for Center for Federalism and Constitutional Reform, said that, “the town hall meeting is a component of DILG’s Balangayan 2019 which aims to have a conversation with the Local Chief Executives, Barangay Officials, SK leaders, and other dignitaries within municipalities in provinces to provide public awareness on the importance of reforms in the Constitution and Federalism.”

“The pursuit of constitutional reform DILG advocates is to provide every Filipino equal access to and opportunity to pursue a comfortable life and better future”, Iribani added.

During the assembly, DILG also emphasized the preservation of the Mandanas decision of the Supreme Court allocating the Internal Revenue Allotment (IRA) of local government units to be computed based on all national taxes and not just from national internal revenue taxes.

The provincial roadshow held at Bulwagang Panlalawigan of Oriental Mindoro Provincial Capitol was joined by more than 1,000 participants from local government units (LGUs), barangay officials, local media and representatives from civil society organizations. Also attended the roadshow were Governor Humerlito A. Dolor, DILG Oriental Mindoro Outcome Manager Maria Victoria J. Del Rosario and DILG Program Manager Dennis S. Beltran. (LC/PIAMimaropa/Calapan)
