The Department of Education donated two flat screen television units to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm on Jan. 19, 2026, to strengthen educational programs for persons deprived of liberty in Puerto Princesa City.
The turnover was held at the New Conference Building of the Central Sub-Colony at IPPF and was led by DepEd MIMAROPA Officer in Charge Regional Director Dr. Nicolas T. Capulong and Puerto Princesa City Schools Division Superintendent Laida M. Lagar Mascareñas, together with other DepEd officials.
IPPF Superintendent C Supt. Gary A. Garcia formally received the television units on behalf of the facility.
DepEd said the donation aims to enhance teaching and learning for PsDL learners enrolled in the Alternative Learning System, supporting access to education inside correctional institutions and reinforcing the agency’s commitment to inclusive education.
The Bureau of Corrections, through Director General Gregorio Pio P. Catapang Jr., expressed continued support for education programs at IPPF, citing learning as a key component of reformation and personal development among persons deprived of liberty.
IPPF officials said the donated equipment will be used to support classroom instruction and learning activities under DepEd-led programs inside the penal farm.
