The provincial police reported a 26% drop in the crime rate in Palawan for 2024.
Based on data shared by Police Major Ric Ramos, spokesperson for the Palawan Police Provincial Office (PalPPO), 186 crimes were reported in 2024, down from 251 in 2023.
Numerous significant crime categories witnessed declines. The murder count declined from 28 in 2023 to 25 in 2024, constituting 13.4% of total offenses. The number of homicide cases declined from five to three, being 1.6% of the total.
Crimes pertaining to property have also diminished, with theft incidents falling from 49 to 36 (19.4%). Robbery incidents declined too, from 31 to 26 (14.0%).
The number of physical injury cases, however, increased from 35 to 43, constituting 23.1% of total crimes.
Occurrences of rape decreased markedly, from 93 to 43, constituting 23.1%.
PalPPO says that the overall drop is because police have been more active, communities have been more involved, and technology has been more useful in preventing and solving crimes.
Presented at a year-end security briefing, the data was supplemented by visual charts that showed the distribution of crimes over the previous two years.
