Health, transport, education, and disaster officials agreed to strengthen coordination to curb road crashes in Coron during a stakeholders’ meeting on Dec. 11, 2025, aligning local actions with the Department of Health’s road safety priority amid growing traffic linked to tourism and development.
Led by the DOH MIMAROPA Center for Health Development and the Provincial Department of Health Office Palawan, in partnership with the Coron Municipal Health Office, the meeting was held at the Coron MHO Conference Hall and gathered key agencies involved in prevention, response, and education.
Participants included the Land Transportation Office, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, Coron District Hospital, Palawan State University, St. Augustine Academy, Coron School of Fisheries, and the Coron Municipal Health Office.
Discussions centered on integrating enforcement, emergency response, and community education to reduce road traffic injuries, which the DOH lists among its Eight Priority Health Outcomes. Officials emphasized data sharing, coordinated campaigns, and school-based interventions to improve compliance with traffic rules and promote safer behavior.
Organizers noted that a whole-of-community approach is critical for Coron, where increased vehicle volume heightens road safety risks. The agencies committed to sustaining coordination and translating plans into localized actions to protect residents and visitors.
