The northeast monsoon, or “amihan,” continues to bring cool temperatures and scattered rains across Luzon, while the easterlies affect Visayas and Mindanao with localized thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
“Patuloy pa rin ang pag-ihip ng malamig na amihan o northeast monsoon sa malaking bahagi ng Luzon. Ito yung hangin na galing sa may mainland Asia, habang ang easterlies o yung mainit na hangin naman galing sa Pacific Ocean ay siyang umiihip sa malaking bahagi ng Visayas and Mindanao,” according to PAGASA weather forecaster Benison Estareja on Wednesday.
He also noted that residents in Luzon should prepare for the impact of the northeast monsoon. Estareja explained that the monsoon would bring overcast skies and light to moderate rains across much of Cagayan Valley, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Aurora, Quezon, Bicol Region, Marinduque, Oriental Mindoro, and Romblon.
He advised the public to remain vigilant for possible flooding and landslides in these areas.
Metro Manila, CALABARZON, and Central Luzon will experience cooler mornings, with temperatures potentially dropping to 23°C. In Baguio City, temperatures may dip to 14°C, maintaining its status as one of the country’s coldest areas.
The easterlies continue to affect the Visayas, bringing partly cloudy to cloudy skies with occasional rain. Eastern Visayas and Metro Cebu will likely experience scattered rain showers, with temperatures ranging between 25°C and 30°C.
In Mindanao, continuous rainfall is expected in Caraga, Davao, and Soccsksargen regions, with up to 100 mm of rain anticipated in Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, Sarangani, and South Cotabato.
Rough sea conditions are expected along the northern and eastern coastlines of Luzon, as well as the eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao. Wave heights could reach up to 3.7 meters, posing risks for small sea vessels. PAGASA has warned that gale conditions may develop later in the day.
Rainy conditions are expected to persist in the eastern parts of the country throughout the week due to the combined effects of the amihan, easterlies, and a shearline.
