Five fishermen were arrested by personnel of the Coast Guard Station (CGS) in Roxas for alleged illegal fishing by using the banned compressor in Barangay Rizal, Roxas, Tuesday morning.
Based on the report it posted on their Facebook account, they said they chanced upon the fishermen using a compressor while they were conducting a search and rescue operation for a missing fisherman named Peggy Santillan.
CGS Roxas said their team sighted and approached a motorized boat and discovered that the fishermen are using compressor in fishing.
Their names were not made available by the CGS.
Confiscated from them were one motor unit Kingstone 12 horse power, one unit compressor tank, and a 100-meter hose.
The motorized boat was owned by Monserat Banes operated by Alberto Busaing, 52, a resident of the barangay.
The team apprehended them for violating R.A 10654 and Municipal Ordinace No. 21, Series of 2001, which prohibits the use of compressor.
