The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has honored 35 personnel in Palawan for separate operations that saved a drowning victim and helped stop the transport of undocumented forest products.
Coast Guard District Palawan (CGDPal) said their actions highlights the agency’s role in both emergency response and environmental protection.
During a ceremony at the headquarters of the CGDPal on June 29, District Commander Commodore Jane J. Gesulgon awarded the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Medal and Ribbon to 23 personnel led by Lieutenant Junior Grade Jev M. Latic for rescuing a drowning victim in Roxas, Palawan on June 28.
Coast Guard said the team responded quickly to the incident, with ASN Vincent Louie V. Padul immediately administering cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR).
Other personnel carried out the rescue and coordinated the victim’s transfer for medical treatment. The Coast Guard said the victim was successfully revived.
Those who also received the Coast Guard Search and Rescue Medal and Ribbon were PO2 Wyeth T. Cantor, PO3 Arvin A. Lim, SN1 Ralph Eli G. Grecia, and SN1 Mark Christian Atilano, along with 17 other personnel involved in the operation.
The agency said the rescue demonstrated the readiness of its personnel to respond to life-threatening emergencies through continuous training in Basic Life Support and CPR under its iCARE Program.
The Coast Guard also awarded the Coast Guard Merit Medal and Ribbon to 12 personnel led by Lieutenant Junior Grade Ralph Christian P. Racho for their role in the recovery of abandoned and undocumented forest products in Quezon, Palawan on June 20.
The operation, according to the Coast Guard, reinforced its efforts to support environmental protection and enforce laws against illegal forest activities in the province.
CGDPal said the recognition reflects the organization’s commitment to excellence in search and rescue, environmental stewardship, and public service.
“Their actions demonstrate courage, professionalism, and dedication in faithfully serving the Filipino people,” the Coast Guard said.
