Elroy John “Clink” Hagedorn, son of the late Representative Edward Hagedorn of the 3rd District, has joined a group of individuals requesting the Sangguniang Panlalawigan to pass a mining embargo that would last for a period of 25 years to preserve the environment of Palawan.
Joined by his mother Ellen Hagedorn, Clink was present at the provincial legislative body’s environmental committee meeting on Tuesday, where board members continue to discuss the proposal.
The proposal was brought about by a mining summit and emphasized by Governor Dennis Socrates in his state of the province speech last year.
“Minsan lamang nagsalita ang Inang Kalikasan, at apat na araw lamang, ramdam na ramdam natin ang kanyang kapangyarihan,” he said in a statement on February 13, referencing the recent floods.
Quoting his late father, former Puerto Princesa Mayor and 3rd District Representative Edward Hagedorn, he urged officials to take action
“Let us protect what we have left. Huwag na nating antaying magrebelde ang Kalikasan,” he said.
Hagedorn dismissed any political motives behind their advocacy, asserting that the public has long expressed its opposition to mining.
He urged the provincial board to act decisively in the upcoming session as they continue to discuss the legislation.
“Kung gusto ay may paraan, kung ayaw ay may dahilan,” he said.
