The holidays are over as classes in public schools resume in all levels effective January 3.
Grace Estefano, information officer of the Department of Education (DepEd) Palawan, said students from kindergarten to senior high in public schools are expected to attend their classes today after their Christmas vacation that started on December 16, 2018.
“All levels from kinder to senior high, the first day of classes for 2019 begins on January 3,” Estefano said.
Private schools, however, has the discretion when to resume their classes, she said.
For schools facing different situations like the Punang Elementary School (PES) in Sofronio EspaƱola which was flooded during the first day of the year, classes will start depending on the decision of the school administrators.
“Depende sa sitwasyon, actually ‘di pa ‘yan sila nag-re-report sa amin na nabaha pala sila. Discretion na rin ‘yon ng school head kasi makikita niya naman kung hindi ready yong eskwelahan (It depends on the situation — actually, they have not reported to us that they were flooded. It’s the discretion of the school head when classes will start because she can see when the school is going to be ready),” she pointed out.
Estefano said that under such situation they may not resume as scheduled but remedial classes are needed to count the contact time of the teachers to students.
