The city police said Tuesday it is filing a case of slight physical injuries against four persons, including a former official of the provincial government, who got involved in a reported mauling incident on November 16 at a popular night spot.
In a statement, authorities said they are also conducting additional probes into the incident.
The police report identified the persons involved as Christian Albert Sabando Miguel, a former executive assistant of the governor’s office and a political aspirant; Albert John Eugene Villon; Kim Zabala; and Nicholas Laksman Low. Additionally, it identified the victim as lawyer Edgar Allan Ocampo of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG).
The police stated that based on its initial investigation, Ocampo arrived at UG Tavern around 12:15 a.m. to meet his lawyer friends. At approximately 12:30 a.m., Miguel allegedly approached the victim and, “without provocation, slapped him in the face.”
“The situation escalated when the other suspects reportedly joined in and assaulted the victim, punching him in the different parts of the body,” the police statement said.
The station further stated that the bar’s bouncers intervened to defuse the situation and facilitated Ocampo’s transport to the hospital for medical treatment.
The management of UG Tavern declined to comment on the incident when contacted by Palawan News on Monday. However, taking to social media, the management said it “deeply regrets the isolated incident” that “led to an injury” within their establishment.
“We are actively cooperating with local authorities in their investigation and are conducting an internal review to further strengthen our safety protocols, ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone,” the bar said.
Palawan News also attempted to reach out to the other parties involved in the incident but has yet to receive a response.
