Puerto Princesa City mayor Lucilo Bayron on Saturday said the city government will launch next month a program similar to the International Coastal Clean-Up.

“Mayroon tayong bagong programa na ilulunsad sa mga darating na buwan gagawin natin ganito din. Ang tawag natin ay ‘Save Puerto Princesa Bay and Other Bays’, unahin natin ang Puerto Princesa Bay,” Mayor Bayron said.

Bayron said this program will be similar to the international coastal cleanup activity but will be continuous and more focused on the city’s surrounding water bodies.

In his speech during the observance of the 2019 International Coastal Cleanup at the People’s Amphitheater in Mendoza Park, Bayron called for support to an upcoming campaign to be initiated by the city government.

He also said the city government is continuously implementing a program that relocates coastal-dwellers to a site intended for them.

Bayron said around 10,000 informal settlers from Barangays Bancao-Bancao, Bagong Sikat, and those who live adjacent the city baywalk are awaiting relocation by the city government.

He said up to 6,000 of them will be placed in a 43-hectare lot that the city government will purchase in Brgy. Irawan.
