A total of 719 barangay frontliners from all 66 barangays completed the Community Event-based Surveillance and Response Training, an initiative aimed at strengthening local capacity to detect and respond to health emergencies.
The training gathered barangay health workers, nurses, midwives, barangay chairmen, and council members handling health and environment committees. It focused on early detection, verification, recording, and reporting of health events to ensure quick response from the barangay up to the city level.
The activity was organized by the Puerto Princesa City Health Office – Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit, in partnership with the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP), Task Force for Global Health, and the Department of Health.
Officials said the program supports the DOH’s 8-Point Action Agenda, particularly its goal to make communities “Handa sa Anumang Pandemya.”
The city government said the initiative builds on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic and ensures that Puerto Princesa is better prepared to manage outbreaks and protect communities from future health threats.
