City ENRO strengthens campaign on solid waste management in Calapan

CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – The City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO) has strengthened its massive campaign on proper waste disposal and management to the residents of the city.

City Environment and Natural Resources Officer Wilfredo G. Landicho in a recent meeting held here appealed to all Barangay Captains of the 62 barangays to strengthen their programs on waste management in their respective area of jurisdiction.

Landicho emphasized that on RA 9003 or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000, barangay captains are tasked to regulate and penalize those who do not comply with the solid waste management system being implemented by the city government.

Relative to this, Landicho also announced that there will be simultaneous cleaning of Calapan River and the shorelines in the barangays on February 23, and he appealed to the public to participate in the cleaning activities.

Other important matters were also tackled in the meeting, which include the possibility of a case to be filed against erring officials at Ombudsman for the non-compliant to RA 9003; reporting violators in the barangay; proposed ordinance on mandatory composting; and implementation of solid waste management system, to encourage the community to make cleanliness a way of life for all Calapeños; other environmental problems being encountered by barangay captains with regard to proper waste disposal, among other concerns on environment.
