The Commission on Human Rights (CHR) honored the courage and dedication of journalists nationwide as the country observed National Press Week from February 8 to 14.
In a statement, the CHR highlighted the critical role of journalists in ensuring that society stays informed and accountable.
“Patuloy ang Commission on Human Rights sa pagbibigay ng suporta sa bawat mamamahayag,” the agency said, underscoring its commitment to protecting media practitioners in carrying out their work.
The commission emphasized the importance of truthful reporting in fostering a democratic and just society.
“Ang bawat kwento na kanilang inilalathala ay nagpapaalala sa atin ng kahalagahan ng katotohanan sa paghubog ng isang malaya at makatarungang lipunan,” it said.
CHR officials noted that journalists face numerous challenges, from political pressures to threats to personal safety, yet they remain steadfast in delivering accurate and timely information to the public.
The agency reaffirmed that safeguarding press freedom is essential to the promotion and protection of human rights across the Philippines.
