Chinese group Beiqi Foton Motor Co., Ltd. or Foton has opened its official dealership in Palawan, hoping to be its partner in economic growth through providing high-quality motor vehicles for various uses and purposes at cost-effective prices.

The grand opening of Foton’s motor vehicle dealership was led by its official country distributor United Asia Automotive Group, Inc. (UAAGI) and authorized dealer Steering Wheel, Inc. (SWI) on January 17 along the North National Highway in Barangay Tagburos, Puerto Princesa City.

Foton is a 22-year old automotive company in Changping District, Beijing, China, which manufactures and designs sport utility vehicles, agricultural machinery, buses, and light and heavy-duty trucks.

Among the event’s special guests was Palawan Governor Jose Alvarez, who said having Foton in Palawan does not only mean fueling economic growth, but providing additional convenient modes of transportation for residents who wish to upgrade the comfort of their road travels.

“Through the years, I saw how Foton has improved its development and turned into a very nice and heartwarming company. Right now, they are doing very great. But in the long run, I believe they will be even better. So, I hope ventures like this will be more in Palawan because I believe that the business side of the province’s growth can also affect the chances of the people to upgrade their lives for the better” Alvarez said.

Engineer Tederico Tiotangco, president of Steering Wheel, Inc. and the brand’s authorized dealer, said Foton will be a big help in infrastructure changes in economic growth in the city and municipalities in the province.

“The infrastructure development of Palawan is changing at full speed. Along with that line, we are here to serve everyone’s transportation service needs. From this day onward, our humble business outreach Steering Wheel, [Inc.], as the major dealership outlet of all the other branch of Foton cars in Palawan is now opening its doors to Puerto Princesa City and the entire province of Palawan. Rest assured that we will help in the pursuit of providing a better quality of life for everyone who will be interested in acquiring our services,” he said.

Meanwhile, Robert Sytin, the president of Foton Philippines, said Puerto Princesa City and Palawan are now part of their company’s history because it is their first branch that will have all their products.

“Today is another milestone for all of us. For the information of everybody, itong branch na Foton Puerto Princesa ay ang una naming branch na sama-sama ang lahat ng aming mga produkto sa Foton. So, everyone can consider himself or herself as part of Foton’s history. The launching is actually very timely — I’ve seen all the projects and the whole vision for the province of Palawan, and Foton will be a great help not only in its promotion as a tourist destination but in providing the best option in vehicles,” Sytin said.

Sytin expressed his gratitude to the Tiotangco family for taking the lead in bringing Foton in Palawan, particularly in Puerto Princesa City.

On the other hand, Dai Hong Kai, the general manager for Foton Asia Pacific, encouraged business owners in the city and province to try the Foton brand’s remarkable automotive features and services.

Steering Wheel, Inc.’ chief executive officer Michelle Tiotangco also said they are willing to partner with business owners who wish to promote their respective ventures with Foton.

“In behalf of the management of Steering Wheel, Inc., the major distributor of passenger vehicles and heavy-duty trucks, we are opening our doors to every Palaweño who wishes to patronize our products and establish a great business relationship with us in the years to come,” she said.
