Cayetano: No ‘ghost’ flood control project in Taguig
Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano insisted on Sunday that there were no “ghost” flood control projects in Taguig City and challenged Sen. Panfilo “Ping” Lacson not to limit the planned Senate investigation to their city.
In a Facebook Live broadcast, Cayetano said the Office of the Ombudsman had announced in 2025 that it found no ghost projects in Taguig. He said his office conducted a separate review that reached the same conclusion.
“There are no ghost projects in Taguig. And if you can show any, those responsible will be held accountable. But when we followed the government funds, the projects were there,” Cayetano said.
He also challenged Lacson to investigate other highly urbanized cities, including Quezon City, Mandaluyong, Makati, and Parañaque, to show that Taguig was not being singled out.
“I’m not saying there are problems in those cities. I’m only saying that Senator Lacson needs to show that he is not just angry at one person,” he added.
Cayetano issued the statement in response to Lacson’s earlier allegation that there was a supposed ghost flood control project in Taguig, which the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee is expected to examine once it begins its hearings.
Lacson had also said he hoped witnesses and informants would present evidence against Cayetano over alleged corruption involving flood control projects.
The exchange between the two senators has intensified in recent days. Cayetano accused Lacson and Sen. Erwin Tulfo of increasing their net worth, while Lacson alleged that Cayetano had billions of pesos in budget insertions in the 2025 national budget.
