The Provincial Agriculturist Office (PAgO) is focusing on programs aimed at boosting agriculture and supporting the livelihoods of farmers and fisherfolk in the province.
As part of this, a Farmers and Fisherfolk Day was held on September 6 in Barangay Sta. Teresita, Dumaran, attended by about 700 farmers and fisherfolk from Roxas, Araceli, and Dumaran.
Provincial Information Office Atty. Christian Jay Cojamco said this is in line with Governor Dennis Socrates’ commitment to strengthening Palawan’s agricultural sector.
The event aimed to gather beneficiaries of the Provincial Government of Palawan’s Corn and Rice Enhancement for Sufficiency (PGP Cares) Program to provide technical assistance to help improve their livelihoods.
“This is the PGP CARES Program. It started when we inaugurated the RAC Dumaran and provided ₱150,000 to each of 21 farmer associations from Dumaran, totaling over ₱3 million. That was the beginning, and as we monitored, we saw progress,” said Provincial Agriculturist Officer Nenita Cabungcal.
During the event, the provincial government distributed agricultural inputs and materials such as fertilizers, grass cutters, nylon, and drums to cashew farmers under the Cashew Rehabilitation Program. Fishing equipment, including nets, was also provided to fisherfolk under the Fishcatch and Aquaculture Enhancement Program.
It was attended by Executive Assistant IV Christian Albert “Crite” Sabando Miguel of the Office of the Governor, representing Socrates, alongside members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan and local officials from the municipalities.
Farmers and fisherfolk thanked Governor Socrates and the PAgO for their support in assisting the agricultural sector in Palawan.
