The Palawan government, through its Gender and Development (GAD) Office, continues to conduct its intensive information, education, and communication drive about Republic Act 11313, also known as the “Safe Spaces Act” or the “Bawal Bastos Law.”
Several uniformed personnel, including members of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), private sector employees, and capitol staff, recently participated in a seminar-orientation on this legislation.
The Provincial Information Office (PIO) said the activity aimed to educate participants about gender-based harassment, various forms of public space harassment, and the corresponding penalties for such acts.
The law strictly prohibits behaviors such as catcalling, unwanted touching, homophobic, transphobic, or misogynistic remarks, and other negative and sexual comments directed at women and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
The GAD Office ensures that awareness and adherence to the Bawal Bastos Law are upheld, fostering a safer and more respectful environment for all.
