Calmia Nickel Inc. clarified that it is the authorized operator of MacroAsia Mining Corp.’s Mineral Production Sharing Agreement (MPSA) in Brooke’s Point, Palawan, amid issues surrounding the municipal council’s revocation of its project endorsement.
Calmia legal counsel Atty. Janine Latosa said the agreement between the two firms designates Calmia as the implementor of the MPSA, formalized in July 2021.
She added that the arrangement is an industry practice and has been recognized by the government.
“Ang ganitong kasunduan ay naayon at kinikilala ng pamahalaan. Katunayan, inaprubahan po ng MGB (Mines and Geosciences Bureau) noong March 2022 ang kasunduan ng Calmia at MacroAsia Mining na nagtatalaga sa Calmia bilang operator ng kanilang operasyon,” Latosa said.
Latosa also reiterated that the company remains in the pre-development stage despite complying with national requirements, noting that operations have not yet started as they are still awaiting permits from the local government.
The clarification came in response to statements by Brooke’s Point Vice Mayor Mary Jean Feliciano, who earlier raised that national permits were issued to MacroAsia Mining Corp. and not to Calmia.
