A total of 300 convicts from the New Bilibid Prison were transferred to the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm on June 21, as part of the Bureau of Corrections’ (BuCor) continuing effort to decongest its main facilities and provide better living conditions and reformation programs.
BuCor Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang said that through the Iwahig Prison and Penal Farm (IPPF), headed by Superintendent Gary Garcia, they are continuously implementing their security measures and reformation initiatives.
BuCor said the transfer of the persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) was carried out in a safe and orderly manner through coordinated efforts among concerned personnel.
It also assured the public that all security protocols were observed and that the transfer posed no threat to surrounding communities.
It said this reflects its commitment to its dual mandate of safekeeping and effective rehabilitation of PDLs.
