A news tourist rest area (TRA) built by the tourism department in Brooke’s Point is expected to start serving travelers in the southern part of Palawan soon.
The rest area, located in Barangay Pangobilian, was constructed last year under the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA) with budget of over ₱9 million.
It is part of a national effort to build more than 100 TRAs across the country. The goal is to improve travel experience in areas with tourism potential but lacking in basic facilities.
Brooke’s Point tourism officer Arlene Piramide told Palawan News that the facility plays an important role in strengthening tourism in the southern part of the province.
“We’re thrilled to share a major milestone for tourism in South Palawan—the construction of the Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in Barangay Pangobilian, made possible through the support of the Department of Tourism (DOT) led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, and the Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority (TIEZA),” Piramide said.
The Brooke’s Point TRA includes a tourist info desk, charging station, shower areas, and a pasalubong center where travelers can buy local products. Piramide said it is meant for both local and international visitors.
“The TRA is designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and supportive of local entrepreneurs, offering space to showcase the culture and creativity of our communities. This project reflects our shared vision for safe, accessible, and sustainable tourism. Maramang salamat, DOT and TIEZA,” she added.
TIEZA’s website shows that similar rest areas are already operating in Medellin, Cebu and in several destinations in Mindanao.
