The city police has reiterated its call for strict compliance with the election gun ban after a British national was arrested for possessing airsoft guns without proper permits.
The incident occurred on January 17 along Sandoval Street, Barangay Mabuhay. Police Station 1 responded to a report from a concerned citizen about a foreigner carrying firearms in public.
Upon verification, authorities confirmed that the 27-year-old businessman, a resident of Barangay Sicsican, had airsoft guns in his possession but failed to provide the required documentation.
The suspect was taken into custody for violating Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Resolution No. 11067.
Puerto Princesa City Police Office (PPCPO) Director Col. Cornelio Tadena Jr. reminded the public of the critical role compliance plays in ensuring safety during the election period.
“The COMELEC gun ban is in place to ensure the safety and security of everyone during the election period. We urge the public to respect and observe this regulation, including the prohibition of gun replicas such as airsoft guns. Your cooperation is vital in maintaining peace in our community. Let us all work together to achieve safe and orderly elections,” Tadena said.
The PPCPO encourages residents to report any violations of the gun ban or suspicious activities to the nearest police station, emphasizing the community’s role in upholding peace during the election season.
