Delegates from the British Embassy participated in a series of environmental conservation activities in Barangay Inagawan Sub on June 18, highlighting international cooperation in protecting Puerto Princesa’s coastal and forest ecosystems.
The outreach activity, organized by the Royal Navy’s HMS Spey and supported by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (City ENRO), brought together local environmental workers and British representatives for coastal clean-up, mangrove conservation, and tree-planting efforts in Sitio Tagbarungis.
According to City ENRO, the delegates joined a shoreline clean-up led by Forest Management Services Division head For. Zorina Arellano before attending an orientation on the city’s Bantay Pawikan Program, a sea turtle conservation initiative presented by Wildlife Management Services Division head Myla Adriano.
The group also visited the City ENRO Mangrove Nursery Project, where they learned about local mangrove propagation efforts and the role of mangrove ecosystems in protecting coastlines, supporting biodiversity, and mitigating climate change.
The delegates later participated in a tree-planting activity as part of local ecosystem restoration efforts. City ENRO provided technical assistance, including site preparation and seedling selection.
“The activity served to strengthen environmental awareness, promote sustainable natural resource management, and foster collaboration between local stakeholders and international partners in protecting Puerto Princesa City’s rich biodiversity and coastal ecosystems,” City ENRO said,
Around 50 seedlings of bani (Pongamia pinnata), narra (Pterocarpus indicus), and talisay (Terminalia catappa) were planted during the activity.
City ENRO said the event underscored the value of partnerships between local government and international stakeholders in advancing environmental protection and conservation initiatives in Puerto Princesa.
