Bike groups, gov’t offices unite in Marinduque vs climate change

Over 250 participants from various bike groups and government agencies gathered on November 23 to promote climate action and healthy living during the Padyak para sa Kalikasan, Magtanim para sa Kinabukasan event organized by the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) Marinduque.

The initiative highlighted the environmental and health benefits of cycling, emphasizing its role in reducing harmful emissions and promoting an active lifestyle. Participants completed a six-kilometer route from Moriones Arena in Barangay Murallon to Poblacion Proper, Barangay Tabi, and Laylay Port, where they planted Talisay seedlings to further their commitment to environmental conservation.

Key officials, including Governor Presbitero Velasco Jr., Vice Governor Adeline Marciano Angeles, and Boac Mayor Armi DC Carrion, expressed their full support for the event, aligning with ongoing efforts to protect the province’s environment. Vice Governor Angeles also used the occasion to raise awareness about the upcoming 18-day campaign to end violence against women (VAW), which begins on November 25.

The program was part of broader celebrations for National Environmental Awareness Month, National Clean Air Month, Climate Change Consciousness Week, and the National Day for Youth in Climate Action. It was facilitated by DENR MIMAROPA, led by Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Officer Imelda Diaz and Technical Services Division Chief Cynthia Lozano.

PENRO Marinduque extended its gratitude to partner agencies, including the Department of Trade and Industry, Philippine National Police, Philippine Red Cross, and others, as well as local biking groups such as Asosasyon ng mga Kabataang Manggagawang Siklista, Buenavista Biker Group, Moriones Padyakaki Biker, and many more who have consistently supported the program since its inception in 2022.

The event reinforced the province’s commitment to fostering an eco-friendly and sustainable future, demonstrating the power of collective action in addressing climate change and environmental challenges.
