More than 1,800 fisherfolk across three municipalities in Palawan have received government assistance under the Presidential Assistance for Farmers and Fisherfolk Program (PAFFP), as authorities step up support for coastal communities facing continued livelihood pressures.
The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) MIMAROPA said the distribution covered a total of 1,880 registered beneficiaries in Narra, San Vicente, and Quezon, with the program designed to provide immediate relief and strengthen household resilience among small-scale fishers.
The rollout began in Narra on May 20–21, 2026, where 595 fisherfolk received assistance at the Municipal Gym in Poblacion. It was followed by a distribution in San Vicente on May 29, benefiting 623 registered fishers held at the PSU Gymnasium in Poblacion.
The final leg took place in Quezon town on June 3, 2026, where 662 beneficiaries received support at the MAO Compound in Alfonso XIII.
BFAR MIMAROPA said the initiative reflects continuing government intervention in coastal communities where income instability remains a recurring concern due to fluctuating catch, fuel costs, and other operational constraints.
“Ang nasabing serye ng pamamahagi ng PAFFP sa Palawan ay patunay ng patuloy na pagsisikap ng pamahalaan na maabot ang mga mangingisda sa mga komunidad, lalo na ang mga higit na nangangailangan ng suporta upang maibsan ang kanilang gastusin at mapalakas ang kanilang kakayahang magpatuloy sa paghahanapbuhay,” BFAR said in a statement.
Officials added that the program is part of broader efforts to stabilize fisherfolk livelihoods and improve access to state assistance mechanisms in geographically dispersed coastal areas.
BFAR said it will continue implementing similar interventions in the region as part of its mandate to support the welfare and economic security of fisherfolk communities in MIMAROPA.
