Members of the Board of Election Inspectors (BEI) who served more than three days of election duties will receive “overtime pays” from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC).

Jomel Ordas, spokesperson of the COMELEC in Palawan, said the poll body will issue certifications to BEIs that they can use to claim their additional pays from the Department of Education (DepEd), their mother agency.

Ordas said the overtime election duties of the BEIs were caused by defective SD cards that delayed the canvassing and proclamation of winners.

“Nagbigay na ‘yong ating provincial election supervisor ng directive na ‘yong mga election officers bigyan ng certifications ‘yong ating mga BEI na nag-serve more than doon sa required time sa kanila gawa ng SD cards na ito para makapag-claim sila ng overtime,” Ordas said.

The amount will be determined later, but he said it will be based on their salary rates.

He added that the overtime pays will be released by the DepEd as the honoraria of election officers.

Aside from the overtime pay, teachers who served during the elections may have additional days on their leave credits.

“Dalawa ‘yan, ‘yong overtime nila pwede nila i-claim sa opisina nila na sila ay nag-serve ng overtime tapos ‘yong leave credits nila na usually five days, pwedeng madagdagan pa dahil nag-overtime sila,” Ordas said.
