The Bataraza municipal government is constructing five covered gyms to serve as evacuation centers in times of disasters and calamities.
Mayor Abraham Ibba said the facilities are located in Barangays Tagolango, Sarong, Tabud, Malitub and Puring, worth around P5.5 million.
“Itinayo ito hindi lang para sa mga programa ng barangay pero para magsilbi na rin na evacuation centers sa mga hindi inaasahan panahon,” Ibba said.
All but one of the gyms is still under construction, he said, saying it is expected to be completed by April.
“Actually, tapos na ‘yong apat itong sa barangay Malitub na lang ang hindi pa natatapos pero by April tapos na rin ito,” Ibba added.
Alvasion Deldel, 51, a barangay official. Malitub thanked the municipal government for the facility.
“Dati kahit saan lang lang kami nag daraos ng programs minsan diyan lang sa school, minsan sa labas lang ng bakod ng center kaya pasalamat kami sa munisipyo na meron na kaming covered gym na para talaga sa amin, ” Deldel said.
