Rabies eradication efforts in Palawan continue to intensify after the Provincial Veterinary Office (ProVet) vaccinated a total of 2,210 pets in Barangay Rio Tuba, Bataraza, from May 11 to 15 as part of its anti-rabies campaign.
Data from ProVet showed that 1,618 dogs, 591 cats, and one monkey received anti-rabies vaccines during the house-to-house vaccination drive, which also served 1,017 pet owners.
Provincial veterinarian Dr. Darius Mangcucang said the provincial government aims to protect animals and communities from the spread of rabies through its ongoing Rabies Eradication Program.
“Bahagi ito kampanya natin sa ilalim ng Rabies Eradication Program na kung saan ang rabies ay itinuturing natin na isang mahalagang usapin sa veterinary public health kung kaya mayroon tayong mass vaccination at iba pa,” Mangcucang said.
Aside from vaccination efforts, the ProVet also continues its spay and neuter program to help control the growing population of stray dogs and cats, which may also pose risks to public safety.
