[Updated] A barangay tanod (watchman) from Barangay Poblacion in Aborlan was arrested early this morning, November 2, after allegedly brandishing his firearm and boasting to drinking companions at the town’s public market.
The suspect was identified as Charlie Goco, while the people he allegedly boasted a gun to were Marylou and Reden. Meanwhile, contrary to an earlier statement, Aborlan police chief P/Capt. Marvin Herrera clarified that they were not drinking companions but merely passed by the area.
Personnel from the Aborlan Municipal Police Station (MPS) immediately responded after receiving a report about the incident. According to the chief of Aborlan MPS, an altercation broke out following a session when Goco approached the two in the market hallway.
Allegedly carrying a caliber .38 firearm, Goco reportedly asked the two, “Anong gusto ninyo? Paputukin ko ‘to?”
Upon their response, police confiscated a caliber .38 revolver without a serial number, loaded with five bullets, which was tucked into Goco’s waistband. Two additional bullets were also found in his pocket.
The suspect is now in the custody of Aborlan MPS, along with the firearm and ammunition. He will face charges for violating Republic Act 10591, or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
NOTE: This story was updated on November 3 to clarify that the two individuals he boasted his gun to were not Goco’s drinking companions but merely passersby.
