A businessman and a barangay watchman narrowly escaped being stabbed by a father and son in Purok Magsasaka, Barangay Mangingisda, Puerto Princesa City, on the evening of Saturday, October 5.
The victims were identified as Gilbert Marapao Lupio, 34, and Walter Rubante Nuñez, 49, while the suspects were named as Macheco Duran, 46, and his son Mikko Regular Duran, 21. According to information gathered by Palawan News, the two suspects were allegedly intoxicated when they attacked.
Lupio, accompanied by the businessman, was unloading gravel when the father and son approached them. Fortunately, the businessman managed to avoid the attack, while the watchman, who had entered the barangay patrol vehicle, was pursued by the suspects.
Ang negosyante, sinaksak, hindi tinamaan. Ang tanod, pinagtulungang saksakin, pero nakatakbo. Hindi nasugatan, mabilis ang takbo niya, pero sinundan siya, mga 600 metro pa ang layo ng tinakbo niya,” a witness, who requested anonymity, said.
It was learned that the suspects’ family often causes disturbances when intoxicated. Macheco reportedly harbors jealousy towards barangay watchmen because they are frequently seen with his ex-wife.
Authorities first arrested Macheco, while the watchmen pursued his son, who was still chasing one of the victims at the time.
Meanwhile, the father and son have been charged with attempted homicide and are currently in the custody of Police Station 3.
