Banwa lauded for luxury and conservation efforts in latest Robb Report ranking

Banwa Private Island in Palawan has been included for the third consecutive year in Robb Report’s list of the “50 Greatest Luxury Hotels on Earth.”

The annual list, first launched in 2023, highlights what the magazine describes as the best examples of global hospitality.

The 2025 edition was selected by 26 international travel specialists known as “Travel Masters,” who nominate their top choices across different regions of the world.

One of the experts, Henry Cookson of Cookson Adventures, praised Banwa for being “set in a marine-protected sanctuary” and noted the chance to encounter whale sharks, hawksbill turtles, and blacktip reef sharks while diving.

Located in the Sulu Sea, Banwa Private Island has six beachfront villas that cater to high-profile travelers, from celebrities to government leaders.

It has become known not only for exclusivity and privacy but also for conservation work through the Aquos Foundation, which supports research and protection of endangered species in the area.

The island’s operations emphasize sustainable practices, including an organic farm, solar power use, and a mosquito-control system that avoids chemical spraying.

These efforts have been central to its brand of luxury tourism that combines comfort with ecological responsibility.

Over the years, Banwa has collected several awards from international travel and lifestyle publications. These include the “Private Island of the Year” citation from Destination Deluxe, recognition from The Gallivanter’s Guide, and the World Travel Awards.

Simon Turner, director of sales and marketing at Banwa, said the island is focused on meeting the expectations of modern travelers.

“Today’s luxury traveler seeks more than privacy—they seek purpose,” he said.

Banwa offers nightly villa rates starting at about $3,050, with options for exclusive full-island bookings.
