The Apostolic Vicariate of Puerto Princesa (AVPP) is set to formally open Jubilee 2025 on December 29, marking the inauguration of pilgrim churches within the vicariate. These sacred sites aim to provide opportunities for spiritual renewal as part of the Catholic Church’s celebration of the Holy Year.
Included among the designated sites are the Immaculate Conception Parish and St. Ezekiel Moreno Parish in Puerto Princesa City, San Raphael the Archangel Parish in Plaridel and Sto. Niño Parish in Apurawan, Aborlan and Sto. Niño de Sicud Parish in Sicud, Rizal.
These locations, along with others across the country, will provide pilgrims a chance to receive plenary indulgences by fulfilling the usual conditions of sacramental confession, Eucharistic communion, and prayers for the Holy Father’s intentions.
“These sacred sites will offer the faithful an opportunity for deeper reflection, conversion, and the experience of God’s infinite mercy,” Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines president Cardinal-elect Pablo Virgilio David said.
Msgr. Bernardo Pantin, CBCP secretary general, emphasized the importance of these pilgrim sites for Catholics who cannot journey to Rome.
“These designated places will offer opportunities for reconciliation, indulgences, and other events intended to strengthen and revive faith,” he stated.
Pope Francis has urged Catholics to embark on pilgrimages during the Holy Year, noting the spiritual blessings they bring. He highlighted the importance of beginning such journeys with the Sacrament of Reconciliation, calling it “the starting point” for pilgrims.
The Jubilee of Hope opened on December 24, with Pope Francis leading the Mass and opening the Holy Door at St. Peter’s Basilica.
