Apple Pay is now available in the Philippines, allowing eligible Visa and Mastercard cardholders to make contactless and digital payments using their Apple devices.
Visa and Mastercard separately announced Tuesday that qualified customers can now add their eligible credit or debit cards to Apple Pay for use on iPhone, Apple Watch, iPad, and Mac.
Once a card is added, users can pay in stores by double-clicking the side button on their iPhone or Apple Watch, verifying their identity through Face ID, Touch ID, or a device passcode, and holding the device near a contactless payment terminal.
Apple Pay can also be used for purchases within mobile apps and on websites that support the service.
According to Apple, every transaction is protected by authentication through Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, along with a one-time dynamic security code to help secure payments.
The service is accepted at establishments that support contactless payments, including supermarkets, pharmacies, restaurants, coffee shops, retail stores, and other merchants.
Visa Philippines Country Manager Jeffrey Navarro said the launch offers Filipinos and foreign visitors a faster and more secure way to pay while supporting the country’s shift toward a cash-lite economy.
“Apple Pay represents the next evolution of payments in the Philippines, combining ease of use, simplicity, and security in every transaction, helping amplify the payment experience for Visa cardholders in the Philippines. With Apple Pay, Filipinos and tourists alike now have seamless and secure ways to pay across shops, restaurants, travel destinations, and public transport, supporting the nation’s vision to become a cash-lite economy,” Navarro said.
Mastercard Philippines Country Manager Jason Crasto said the rollout expands consumers’ payment options as digital transactions continue to grow.
“As digital adoption continues to accelerate in this region, we’re excited to continue connecting people to the payment choices they want and the peace of mind they need every time they pay,” Crasto said.
